Beavers Go 2-1 on Fresno Trip, Beating Both Junior Colleges and Playing NCAA DII Opponent Tough

The Beavers took on three opponents on consecutive days on their trip to the Fresno area. They began by playing at Clovis Community College, a first-year team located in the suburbs of Fresno. ARC was able to earn the victory in a 9-0 shutout, highlighted by convincing wins by Landon Arendt, 6-2, 6-1 (#1), Myles Newton 6-1, 6-0 (#4), and Carson Parent 6-0, 6-0 (#6). On the second day of the road trip, the Beavers took on NCAA DII opponent, Fresno Pacific University. Last year the Beavers came within one set from beating the nationally ranked Sunbirds, losing 4-3 when Enrique Silveira fell in 3 sets at the #1 position. This year the Beavers were once again up for the challenge, but fell short in a 5-2 loss. Myles Newton (#5) and Thomas Nosler (#6) won their matches in straight sets and Rudy Golen competed well at #4 in a 3-set loss (6-4, 3-6, 10-5). The final match of the trip was against Fresno City College at the beautiful Fig Gardens Racquet Club. It was the Beavers best team performance of the season, as each doubles team won convincingly, led by Newton and Golen locking down an 8-3 victory in a thoroughly solid performance at #2. In the singles, top performance were turned in by Jesus Galvan at #2 (6-0, 6-4), Tijme Brunner at #3 (6-4, 6-3), and Myles Newton at #5 (6-1, 6-2). ARC will next play Solano College in the final round robin match in conference, trying to continue their undefeated streak in conference of 89 consecutive conference match wins.
