BEAVERS CANT HOLD LEAD, GET SWEPT BY MODESTO
The American River College baseball team got out to a fast start early Friday morning in a game that was moved up to a 10:40 start to try and beat the incoming storm. They scored three runs in the first inning and a pair in the 3rd inning on a Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) double to take a 5-0 lead. Modesto got a run back in the 3rd inning, but the Beavers got 2 more back in the 4th, one on a single by LF Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian), one of his 4 hits on the day and one on a double by P/DH Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City), one of his two doubles on the day. That gave the Beavers a 7-1 lead. Then things took a turn for the worse. Modesto sacrificed home a run in the bottom of the 4th to make the score 7-2, then with two outs, nobody on and an 0-2 count on the batter it all fell apart. Pelechowicz threw three straight balls then hit the batter to put him on with two outs. The next two batters singled, followed by a hit batter to load the bases, then another hit batter, and a walk to make the game 7-5. Freshman Ben Bowers (Folsom) came in and walked his first batter then allowed a two run single to put Modesto up 8-7. ARC did tie the game in the 5th after a half hour rain delay and the score remained 8-8 until the 10th inning when the Pirates got a two out single to walk off the Beavers. Bowers went 6 really strong innings to give the Beavers a chance, fending off several MJC rallies with some key pitches to get big outs. Offensively the Beavers threatened several times but could not find the success that they had in the first five innings. ARC moves on to play Cosumnes River College next week, with Tuesday's game being at Beaver Field at 2:00 pm
