American River College traveled down Highway 99 on Tuesday to take on the Modesto JC Pirates at Jerry Streeter Field, but the bats never seemed to get off the bus.  The Beavers tallied just six hits, two by DH Rylan Pope (McClatchy), as the team lost 3-1 to fall to 16-16 on the season.  The Beavers lone run came on a solo home run, the first of his career, by freshman 3B Jameson Barnes (Twelve Bridges) in the 7^th inning.  On the mound sophomore Ethan Palumbo had another really solid outing, throwing 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs, 1 earned despite only striking out a pair of Modesto hitters.  The two teams will meet up again at Beaver Field on Thursday for game 2 of the 3 game series at 2:00 pm
