BEAVERS TAKE GAME 1 FROM SANTA ROSA- WESTBROOK WALKS THEM OFF IN THE 9TH
It took all 9 innings on Tuesday but American River College avenged last years' season ending defeat with a 6-5 win over Santa on Tuesday. Santa Rosa got on the board first off of starter Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) but he held the Bear Cubs in check for most of his 5 2/3 innings of work. ARC came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the third inning with 2 run singles each from 2B Lance Sabatke (River City) and Rylan Pope (McClatchy). Santa Rosa was able to close the gap to 4-3 but ARC got an insurance run in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Pope, for his 3rd RBI of the day. The score remained the same until the 8th, as LHP Quincey Carr (Whitney), RHP Zach Laduzinski (Whitney) and RHP Ben Bowers (Folsom) were able to keep the Beavers in the lead. SRJC tied the game in the 8th though, as a run scored on a potential double play that was not turned followed by an RBI single by reigning BIG 8 Conference MVP JT Summers made the game 5-5. Bowers and freshman RHP/RF Brandon Pelechowicz managed to keep Santa Rosa off the board in the 9th, in part thanks to a perfect relay throw from SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) to cut down the potential go-ahead run at the plate for the 2nd out of the inning. In the bottom of the 9th C Eli Campbell (Cordova) led off with a single through the left side, then was bunted over to 2nd by Bryce Sabatke. Pelechowicz was then walked to bring up CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge). Westbrook then laced a single to right center that easily scored Campbell from second to give the Beavers a walk-off win. Game 2 of the series will be at Cypher Field in Santa Rosa at 2:00 pm.
