VEGA’S 10TH INNING HOMER HELPS BEAVERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 5
American River College played the role of gracious guest on Tuesday, as it seemed every time they scored and took the lead they would give it right back to the hosts, Diablo Valley College. ARC took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when DH Rylan Pope (McClatchy) singled home 2B Lance Sabatke (River City) who had doubled earlier. It was one of four hits on the day for Pope. But DVC came right back, scoring a pair of unearned runs off of ARC starter Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) DVC extended their lead to 3-1 in the 4th inning on a safety squeeze bunt. ARC came right back though, scoring 4 runs in the 5th inning, with the big blow being an opposite field 3 run home run by RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City), his team leading 4th home run of the season. American River then gave one back to the Vikings in the 5th inning, and another in the 6th to tie the game at 5. Each team plated a run in the 8th inning, with the Beavers having a golden opportunity to take the lead but C Eli Campbell (Cordova) was not able to tag up on a fly ball to left by CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge). Neither team scored in the 9th inning, but the Beavers would get a little late game magic in the 10th. Lance Sabatke led off the inning with a single, which was followed by 1B Jose Vega's 2 run blast to left to put the Beavers up 8-6. With Brandon Pelechowicz on in relief since the bottom of the 8th inning, the Vikings first two batters in the 10th singled. After a sacrifice bunt move the runners up to 2nd and 3rd with one out, Pelechowicz struck out the next two batters to end the game. The two teams will continue the series on Thursday at Beaver Field beginning at 2:00 pm.
