SABATKE BROTHERS LEAD BEAVERS TO SWEEP OF PORTERVILLE
It was the first time that American River College had ever played Porterville College from the Central Valley and it turned out well for the Beavers. ARC made the 4+ hour trek down Highway 99 and got off to a fast start, with SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) getting an infield single to start the game. RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City) followed with a single to right center that moved Sabatke to third. CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) then executed a safety squeeze allowing Sabatke to score. Pelechowicz would later score on a wild pitch to put ARC up 2-0. The Beavers scored three times in the 3rd inning, starting with a leadoff double to left by Sabatke. Pelechowicz was then hit by a pitch and Westbrook grounded out to first to move the runners up. DH Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian) grounded out to score Sabatke, then 1B Jose Vega continued his hot hitting with a single to score Pelechowicz. 2B Lance Sabatke (River City) became the second Sabatke brother to double in the inning, which scored Vega from 1st to put ARC up 5-1.
On the pitching side freshman RHP Ben Bowers (Folsom) got the start and allowed one run over three innings. Freshman RHP Ayden Dringenberg (Oakmont) came on in relief and pitched 3 innings of his own, surrendering a two run home run but he struck out 4 in his three innings of work.
The Beavers final three runs came in the top of the 6th inning thanks to RBI singles from Pelechowicz and Nichols and a fielders choice by Vega. Freshman RHP Zach Laduzinski (Whitney) pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning and Pelechowicz came on for a final two scoreless inning stint to give the Beavers the 8-3 win, improving their record to 11-8. ARC returns to BIG 8 Conference play next week with a three game series against Diablo Valley College next week with games in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday and Friday, and one at Beaver Field on Thursday.
