BEAVERS WIN FIRST EVER MATCHUP WITH PORTERVILLE COLLEGE, 11-4

BEAVERS WIN FIRST EVER MATCHUP WITH PORTERVILLE COLLEGE, 11-4

It was the first time that the two schools have ever met and American River College came out on top Tuesday, 11-4 in a non-conference game at Beaver Field.  The Beavers struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with 1B Jose Vega (Highlands) doubling to left to score 2B Lance Sabatke (River City) from first, who was running on the pitch.  3B Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) later singled Vega in with a single to left center.  Porterville took the lead in the 4th inning off of starter Ethan Palumbo (Antleope) scoring two runs on a wild pitch when the throw from catcher Eli Campbell (Cordova) got away and rolled into the dugout, allowing the third run of the inning to score.  ARC came right back and took the lead however, scoring twice in the bottom of the 4th, one on a single by Haney and then Campbell drove in a run on a bases loaded double play.  After Porterville tied the game with a solo home run in the 5th inning to make the score 4-4, the Beavers would score another pair in the bottom half of the inning, then two more in the 6th, one in the 7th and two more in the 8th to pull away for good.  The Beavers tallied 15 hits on the day, with Jose Vega leading the way with 4.

ARC will make its first ever trip to Porterville on Thursday to take on the Pirates in the Beavers final non-conference game of the regular season.
