BEAVERS DROP GAME TWO TO FEATHER RIVER- SERIES TO BE DECIDED ON SATURDAY

BEAVERS DROP GAME TWO TO FEATHER RIVER- SERIES TO BE DECIDED ON SATURDAY

After winning game 1 going away on Thursday American River College got a taste of their own medicine at home on Friday dropping game two of the three game series 18-9 to Feather River College.  Despite the score the Beavers were in the game late, trailing 11-7 going into the 8th inning but Feather River pulled away with a 6 run 8th and scoring again in the top of the 9th.  Feather River scored first for the second day in a row, tallying a pair of runs off of ARC starter Ben Bowers (Folsom) in the 3rd inning.  The Beavers came right back scoring 4 in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead, with two of the runs coming on a single to right center by sophomore LF Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian).  Feather River answered right back, scoring three in the 4th off of Bowers, all unearned, in what would be Bowers final inning of work.  ARC came right back though and tied the game at 5 to get Bowers off the hook.  The 5th inning was not kind to the Beaver bullpen as three pitchers combined to allow 6 runs in the inning, with three each charged to sophomore LHP Quincey Carr (Whitney) and freshman RHP Zach Laduzinski (Whitney).  Sophomore RHP Nathan Gahn (Bear Creek) came in to finish the inning, followed by a scoreless 6th and 7th innings.  The Beavers added a pair of runs in the 6th to close the gap to 11-7, then had a chance in the 7th to inch closer when sophomore 3B Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) singled to center.  The ball was misplayed by the Golden Eagles CF which allowed Haney to get all the way to third.  Unfortunately the next three hitters all went down swinging, stranding Haney at third.  The Beavers struck out a season high 15 times on the day.  With the score 11-7 entering the 8th inning Gahn began to tire and allowed the first three batters to reach, two via base on balls.  Freshman RHP Ethan Massi (Pleasant Grove) came on to pitch, making his college debut and promptly hit the first batter, allowing a run to score.  Massi allowed two of Gahn's runs to score, plus three of his own, and was unable to finish the 8th.   Sophomore RHP Randy Payne (Del Campo) made his season debut after missing last season with an injury and gave up a double to the first batter he faced but struck out the next for his first K in over a year.  Feather River tacked on another unearned run in the 9th.  Offensively the Beavers tallied 14 hits, with sophomore C Rylan Pope (McClatchy) leading the way with 3 on the day.

Game 3 will be on Saturday at Beaver Field with a noon start time.
