Panthers walk to win over Beavers
The top-ranked Sac City panthers used three walks, two hit batters, a passed ball and one hit to score five runs in the top of the 8th to down American River College 5-0 at Beaver Field on Saturday. The rally started with two outs and nobody on base. For 7 2/3 innings freshman Andrew Wiesenfarth (Rio Americano) was masterful, limiting the Panthers to two hits, before walking a batter and then hitting a batter with two outs in the 8th. Sophomore Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) came on in relief and walked the first two batters he faced then hit the third on an 0-2 pitch. Freshman Ian Codina (Oakmont) entered with a 2-0 count on Sac City's SS Boston Romero. Codina got the count to 3-2 before Romero slapped a single between third and short to score two runs and make the score 4-0. The next pitch tipped off of catcher Joaquin Sequeira's (Antelope) glove allowing the 5th run to score.
The Beavers had a chance to get on the board in the 6th inning when Sequeira singled with two outs and sophomore Brayden Gomez (Bella Vista) on 2nd, but Gomez was shot down at the plate on a very close play to end the inning.
The two teams will meet again at Union Stadium on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
