ARC Beach Plays First Local Match of 2026 Season
It was such a beautiful day at Livermore Park, it was hard to imagine Lassen College snowed in 200 miles away. The recent winter storm kept the Cougars away so the play date turned into a mini tri with ARC playing De Anza College who had traveled from the South Bay.
The Beavers have shown a lot of early resilience in tightly contested matches and the dance with De Anza was another test. 3 of 5 counted matches in the dual went to decisive 3rd sets. Anabelle Gomez and Gillian Rossi pulled out an exciting 3rd set victory, 16-14, in the second wave.
Both the pairs of Maddy Seabury and Lillie Miranda as well as Maya Mishchuk and Maddy Rossman lost the first sets in the repective matches. Both pairs needed to make big turn-arounds energetically and play-wise and both delivered. Maya Mishchuk's block came alive and Maya and Maddy won the 2nd and 3rd sets in physical fashion. Maddy Seabury showed her own physicality and ability to generate powerful offense on the bouncy Folsom courts. She and Lillie Miranda also won the 2nd and 3rd sets in their match.
In the first wave of play of the day, Gwendolyn Hansen and Kaylee Astacio had a crisp and clean performance, winning in straight sets. After their De Anza match-up, they went on to compete in an exhibition match with teammates Chloe Lester and Addy Tagala, which was arguably the most entertaining match of the day. Both pairs were lively, celebratory, and excited to be sharing the court. Mylee Finney and Addy Tagala also showed off their setter middle connection in their exhibition match with Folsom Lake.
Margaret O'Brien and Aurora Meneghetti played their match in the second wave and stayed patient under pressure to ride to a victory in 2 sets.
The Beavers showed a lot of poise and presence and continue to show persistence in matches that go the distance.
